Over 160 young women gathered at Titanic Belfast yesterday alongside industry leaders at our annual International Women’s Day celebrations!
The young women from schools across NI were hosted and mentored by industry volunteers from Women in Business and Young Enterprise NI at our annual Inspire conference, which aims to inspire young women to step up and be leaders within their own spheres of influence and to contribute to the advancement of women around the world.
The event, which is now established on the Titanic Belfast calendar, has had significant speakers over the years, ranging from students, achievers in business to charity activists. This year, pupils were introduced to UTV’s Denise Watson, Sue Willis, Santander UK Director,
Ruth Cooke and Abi Wells from International Justice Mission, Anne Higgins, General Manager from Boots and Edel Doherty, Managing Director from QA Travel.
Each spoke to the pupils around the International Women’s Day’s theme ‘Be Bold For Change’, and encouraged the pupils to ‘Step up’ to advance women’s potential worldwide.
Siobhán McCartney, our Learning and Outreach Manager, commented, “We are delighted to host our fourth Inspire Conference to mark International Women’s Day. Over the years, we have now welcomed over 550 young women from schools and colleges across Northern Ireland. At Titanic Belfast, we are proud and passionate about education outside the classroom and hope that this event has sparked new ideas, enterprise and passion amongst young women who can now inspire to be leaders in their own spheres and contribute to the advancement of women locally and nationally.”
During the conference pupils also had the opportunity to take part in a global 'mentor walk', where they could engage in informal and organic conversation with their industry mentors, learn more from each other and develop relationships which may last beyond the day.
In addition to the Inspire Conference, Titanic Belfast is hosting a community exhibition of artwork illustrating impressions of gender parity. This is open to the public for viewing in The Andrews Gallery at Titanic Belfast from 8th
The Inspire 2017 event was supported by the Survitec Group, Young Enterprise NI and Women in Business and is just one of Titanic Belfast’s Learning team’s offering. Our education programme is recognised as a leading learning resource nationally and has welcomed over 100,000 participants since opening in 2012.
