1869 Lady Cairns

The 1,311-ton sailing ship Lady Cairns (Yard No. 60) was launched today at about 3.30am by Harland & Wolff for their own account. An invitation to launch the vessel was sent by the Harbour Commissioners' to Prince Arthur, but he was unable to accept their hospitality. The vessel was intended for the China trade. So short of space were the builders that immediately after launching the slip was occupied by the keel of a 1,700-ton steamer.

1924 Atlantida

The 4,000-ton passenger and fruiter motor ship Atlantida (WC&C Yard No. 472) was launched today by Workman, Clark & Co. Ltd., for the Standard Fruit & Steam Ship Company, New Orleans. Atlantida had a length of 365 feet, with a beam of 50 feet. She was built with three ‘tween decks and hold fore and aft for the carriage of bananas. Accommodation was provided for 68 1st Class passengers.
