The Ocean Exploration Centre (OEC) is the final stop in the Titanic Experience, where we bring the story of Titanic’s legacy right up to present day and home to our local shores.
Get up close to some of the high-tech equipment used in ocean exploration, learn more about our local seas, and discover the exciting research and underwater footage from Ulster University, Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI), the Marine Division of the Department of the Environment (DOE), the Ryan Institute of the National University of Ireland, Galway and Ulster Wildlife. You’ll better understand how our everyday lives are intertwined with the oceans, and how vital it is to protect them.
Find out about what life is like for an array of sea-going scientists and engineers or explore our underwater landscape with our unique simulators which have converted actual maps of our seabed into a virtual environment which you can explore for yourself, or discover more about Belfast today and see how the city has evolved and maintained strong links to the sea.
At certain times of the year, visitors can even join an expedition dive in real time when we host live interactions with the scientists and communicators on-board Dr. Robert Ballard’s ship, E/V Nautilus, as his team are out exploring the world’s oceans.
Learners can take advantage of our ever-expanding offering of OEC school workshops, which aim to inspire the next generation of ocean explorers and teach important STEM principles.
