Titanic Belfast Solves The Case With New Workshop!

Titanic Belfast has extended its educational programme with the launch of a new historical workshop and to celebrate we are giving schools across Northern Ireland the chance to win a guided tour of the Titanic Experience and try out our new Solve the Case workshop for one of its classes!

The Solve the Case workshop has been developed to tie in with the reimagined Titanic Experience and complements the world-leading visitor attraction’s existing educational offering. It is a hands-on, artefact-based session placing pupils in the role of historical detectives, giving them the clues to piece together Titanic’s passenger’s past, their relationships and their stories.

The new workshop begins with a fully immersive light show which introduces pupils to the people onboard Titanic. They will then be tasked with using Edwardian artefacts, costume and documents to unpack the mystery surrounding several passengers. In small groups, they will use carefully crafted clues, to work out who their passenger is and will present their case to the class on where their passenger came from and why they were travelling on the Titanic.

Cheryl Ferguson, Education and Outreach Officer at Titanic Belfast said: "At Titanic Belfast we have invested heavily in our education programme which to date has been enjoyed by over 240,000 pupils from across Northern Ireland. We are excited to announce the launch of a brand-new historical workshop which complements and celebrates the stories told in our reimagined Titanic Experience.

The Solve the Case Workshop aims to challenge pupils and extend their understanding of the familiar narrative of Titanic by introducing them to some lesser-known individuals from different parts of the world and different sectors of society and encourages them to make judgements and to ask questions of the evidence. Who were the people who travelled on Titanic? Why were they on board and what can that teach us about society in 1912?

"It’s an interactive workshop that is an exercise of problem-solving, teamwork and creativity and gives students the opportunity to learn about life in Edwardian times and the conditions onboard the world’s most famous liner. We have tested the new workshop with our partner schools and the response has been fantastic, so we’re excited to start offering it to schools across Northern Ireland,” Cheryl concluded.
