Maritime History, Things To Do, What's On Maritime May Celebrations at Titanic Belfast

All month long Titanic Belfast and SS Nomadic will be hosting 'Maritime May' celebrations showcasing Belfast’s maritime heritage for #LocalHistoryMonth!

On top of exploring the sights, sounds, smells and stories of Titanic, as well as the City and people which made her in the Titanic Experience, guests can enjoy activities including:

May Day Bank Holiday Weekend (5th – 7th May)
Meet the mascots, enjoy a period letter writing workshop and follow our Explorer Trail which enables children to experience the shipyard, walk the decks, travel to the depths of the ocean and uncover the true legend of Titanic for lots of Bank Holiday family fun

Titanic Maritime Festival (19th – 20th May)
Join us and Titanic Foundation for an action packed weekend celebrating our waterfront heritage & seafaring traditions with everything from a Big Titanic Pop-up Picnic to an artisan street food market and wooden boats to nautical walking tours! Visitors can enjoy spectacular heritage sites, live music, games, interactive exhibits, roving performers and lots more as they explore the Maritime Mile at this year's Maritime Festival!

BBC Music's The Biggest Weekend and Bank Holiday Fun (25th – 28th May)
While we host BBC Music's The Biggest Weekend out on the Titanic Slipways, we will be getting into the festival spirit inside the building too with festival flag and badge making for kids!

Launch Day (31st May – 4th June)
Hop aboard SS Nomadic to celebrate the anniversary of RMS Titanic’s launch and the day SS Nomadic left Belfast, when over 100,000 spectators lined the Lagan. Mark the occasion in true party style with face-painting, games, postcard making, badge making as well as meet characters from the era on board!

Local History Month Trail (May)
For adults, there will also be local history trail throughout the month, which will help unearth unknown stories of Belfast’s maritime heritage throughout the Titanic Experience - make sure you pick up your copy from our ticketing desks!

Junior Explorer Competition (Closes 18th May)
Titanic Belfast is once again on the lookout for its latest recruits – two child reviewers for 2018/19! The two lucky winners will find gainful employment and get to experience all Titanic Belfast has to offer for free – for an entire year – whilst casting their eye over our child friendly offering. Children can enter during Maritime May by picking up a form in the building or enter online here.

Plus, for those interested in learning more about Queen's Island and the H&W shipyard for #LocalHistoryMonth, make sure you have a read of our 'A History of the Shipyard' blogs - starting here!
