Christmas has arrived at Titanic Belfast!

Our festive illuminations have burst into life thanks to Caitlin (7) and Frankie-Rose (3) Canavan who were chosen to switch on our Christmas lights.

Caitlin (7) and Frankie-Rose (3) Canavan switch on Titanic Belfast's Lights with Father Christmas

The sisters from Belfast added sparkle and started the seasonal celebrations at our event yesterday to welcome Father Christmas, who arrived with his reindeer and sleigh!

Following the big switch on, Caitlin and Frankie-Rose enjoyed an exclusive sneak preview of A Magical Christmas Experience and were the first to step through the Enchanted Forest to enter into the Elves’ Workshop.

They also enjoyed mingling with a host of well-known Northern Ireland faces from the entertainment industry as they joined Mrs Claus in her cosy kitchen, heard Christmas tales, enjoyed festive games, checked their names on the Naughty or Nice list and met Father Christmas himself.

Our Chief Executive Judith Owens, commented: “Christmas is a truly magical time of year. At Titanic Belfast, our Magical Christmas Experience is all about embracing festive cheer and creating unique memories and we hope this experience will be something Caitlin and Frankie-Rose will always remember!”

Our winning family also joined 15 local Sure Start families from East Belfast who were invited to enjoy A Magical Christmas Experience, ahead of opening to the public later that day.

Sure Start is a programme that works with families with children under the age of four in the 25% most disadvantaged areas in Northern Ireland. It aims to improve health, social development and the ability to learn by promoting parents’ involvement.

Aware that Christmas can often be a difficult time, the event enabled these families to celebrate the joy of the festive season together. The charity is encouraging families to use Christmas as “anytime is chatting time” this year.

Sure Start East Belfast coordinator, Tracey Wilson, said: “Christmas can be a difficult time and we are so grateful to Titanic Belfast for giving our Peer Support and Young Mums’ families a break from the stress of the festive season through this unique event. The festive season can be a wonderful time for families to be together and create some lovely memories, like this event did. This Christmas, we are encouraging everyone to make anytime chatting time.  It is the perfect opportunity to talk to your child about what is going on around them, sing Christmas songs and read stories, which will not only help them learn to talk and concentrate but also make friends’’.

A Magical Christmas Experience runs at Titanic Belfast until 23rd December 2019.
