01 March 1912

1st March 1912

On This Day

On this day, an historic meeting took place with the arrival of Olympic at Belfast. On 24 February, towards the end of an eastbound crossing of the Atlantic, Olympic dropped one of the blades of her port propeller forcing her return to Belfast.

High winds prevented her from coming up the Lough until the following day when she was warped into the Thompson Graving Dock. Her sister Titanic was fitting out nearby at the Deep Water Wharf; this was the first and last occasion when the two sister-ships were afloat together.
