On the eve of the anniversary of Titanic’s sinking, join us for a powerful evening of music, storytelling and expert discussion as we reflect on the ship’s enduring legacy. Running concurrently to the timed guided tours, our special commemorative talks programme, hosted in the Galley Café, will bring together historians, filmmakers, and those with a personal connection to RMS Titanic to explore the people, stories, and emotions behind one of history’s most fascinating tragedies.
The evening opens with a moving violin solo, echoing the music played aboard RMS Titanic on her final night. From there, our programme delves into her last hours, with speakers discussing survivor testimony, key figures and screen adaptations. Readings from A Night to Remember transport us to the moment Titanic struck the iceberg and her final minutes before she met her tragic end.
Personal stories take centre stage as Susie Millar shares the tale of her great-grandfather, Tommy Millar, a shipbuilder who sadly lost his life aboard RMS Titanic, and historian Sheryl Rinkol explores the ship’s origins at Harland & Wolff. A behind-the-scenes look at costuming and set design from an upcoming documentary series reveals how Titanic’s world has been brought back to life for modern audiences.
Music is woven throughout the evening, with performances from Titanic: The Musical capturing the emotions of those on board. As the night draws to a close, guests will move to the slipways where the RMS Titanic was launched for a candle-lighting ceremony in remembrance of those who were lost. The event concludes with a powerful rendition of Nearer My God to Thee, performed beneath beams of light projected into the night sky—a fitting tribute to the lives forever linked to Titanic’s story.
This commemorative evening offers a rare opportunity to reflect, learn, and remember; blending history, artistry, and personal testimony in a moving tribute to Titanic and all who sailed on her.
