Local foster carers and their families from across Northern Ireland had the chance to enjoy some festive cheer at Titanic Belfast last weekend as they visited the Titanic Experience, enabling them to celebrate the joy of the festive season together.
Foster carers are ordinary people who do an incredible thing by supporting children and young people at a time when they need it most and in partnership with the HSC NI Adoption and Foster Care Unit, Titanic Belfast provided 100 complimentary tickets to the Titanic Experience so that families could to try out our new Christmas Edwardian themed Explorer Trail throughout the world-class interactive galleries, visit SS Nomadic and snap selfies at our seasonal scene photo stops throughout the building creating wonderful memories together.
Titanic Belfast’s CEO Judith Owens commented: “Christmas is a truly magical time of year, and the Titanic Experience is all about creating unique memories together. We are really pleased that we have been able to welcome so many foster families and children to visit us at Titanic Belfast. It’s been wonderful to be able to spread the festive cheer and to be adding something special to the lives of these very deserving families this Christmas!”
Jaroslava and Tomas, long term foster carers for two children, visited along with their own children and noted, “We know the difference that fostering can make to children’s lives and we wanted to help others. We love every second of fostering. We try and give the children a warm home full of love and our children have learnt that not everyone has everything in life and to be thankful for what we have. We all loved this special treat to Titanic Belfast.”
While Dianne, a short breaks foster carer, who visited with her family and young person she cares for said “We all had a great day at Titanic Belfast. The children really enjoyed finding the little characters and wreaths along the Edwardian trail!”
Representatives from the HSC NI Adoption and Foster Care Unit were also on hand throughout the weekend to speak to visitors and raise awareness about the children and young people currently in living in our local community who need safe and loving foster homes on a short and long-term basis.
